No lip synching here

Following a trip to C0stco the girls were having a wonderful time making a toy car out of the empty cardboard boxes. Music was playing and they were in kid heaven. Since the Olympics Rosie has loved the song, "Call me Maybe" because the US swim team adopted it as their theme song so she heard it ALOT. I have it on a playlist and it came on. I had to grab my video as she abandoned all notions of making a car with her sister and just started singing and prancing about. Is it any wonder that I love my life with these two?

Who Are These People?

Today was a quiet yet wonderful Sunday. No huge, plans just being together. We were in the car and Lily announced, "Look at me, I'm a nerd." I laughed so hard.

When Jacob saw her looking so daft he told her he would pay her 50 cents if she would wear them into a store. She of course, was up for such a dare.

Rosie didn't want to be left out.

Sorry she is sideways I was sitting in the front looking back and Jacob went around a corner......fast.

By now you can probably guess what happened next right?

I swear I spent the afternoon denying I had ever met any of them!

She Said, What?

This morning when I came home from work I went to get changed to go for a run. Rosie and Lily were playing in Lily's room and then Rosie came dashing into our room with a ribbon tied over her eyes. I decided this was a bad idea, (imagine that) and asked her what she was doing.

Me: Rosie, what are you doing? You are going to hurt yourself.
Rosie: I am playing blonde.
Me: You're doing what?
Rosie: Playing blonde.
Me: What on earth do you mean?
Rosie: I can't see, I'm blonde.
Me: Ummm, do you mean blind?
Rosie: Yeah, blind.

I ran into the bathroom grabbed a towel and laughed my head off. Apparently having a blonde mother is rubbing off on her. Oh and the game continued and she never got hurt.

Thank Heaven For Little Girls

This has been a really bad week. If it could hit the fan it did and the stress level has been high. To top it off I can no longer utter the words, I have never had a car accident because on Thursday that clean slate of nearly 30 years was taken away from me. I am fine and so, thankfully, is Lily. Car seats and boosters seats.......this will be my soapbox for many years so don't get me started.

I am really thankful to have these two little nutters to make me laugh constantly with their silliness. They keep things real and remind me of what matters most in this world.

The latest in Wii fashion. A gift from a client/friend. The girls refuse to take them off. Aren't they lovely?
Why yes we do play Wii in our undies don't you?

Just getting ready for bed can prove to be a challenge in this house and one that ends up making me laugh until my sides hurt.
Oh, this is possibly the first glimpse of Lily's newly decorated room that I promised photos months ago.

From The Mouth Of Lily

On Friday evenings after I tuck Rosie into bed Lily and I have some special time together. Sometimes we play board games, or I give her mani's and pedi's, we bake cookies or watch movies, anything that lumps us together without her little sister. Last Friday she wanted to watch a movie and more specifically, she wanted her Gotcha Day movie. She has seen it countless times but we haven't watched it for a long time as she has been more interested in Rosies Gotcha Day movie of late.

As soon as the movie started so did the barrage of questions and comments.
Wow Mummy you were as skinny as a super model back then.
Daddy was fat then.
And on and on she went but the two classics that I never want to forget are these:

As she is watching the crowded room filled with nannies and wailing babies she spotted her orphanage director and this conversation took place:

(Lily) Mrs Li looks just like Teresa
(Me) Teresa who?
(Lily) Teresa from Chinese class, James' Mommy.
(Me) No she doesn't, they don't look anything alike.
(Lily) Yes they do, all Chinese people look the same apart from Rose and Father Joe.
I laughed so hard at this. Lily has to be the only Asian person that thinks they all look alike!

And her next classic for the night was when she was watching her get her very first bath. She was still very scared and was non verbal and just going through the motions. We had explained to her why she was feeling the way she was and she understood and this is her take on it all:
(Lily) Mummy I think I was hoping I was just being rented out for the day by the orphanage and that I was not going to have to stay with you and Daddy forever.

I have said it before and I will say it again...this kid of mine is smart.
Lily Cope, I love you so very much.

Both Our Kids Are Bonkers

With each passing day Rosie gets more and more confident. It now feel as if we have had her forever and Lily said the same thing a couple of days ago. She is a hoot. Lily and her have so much fun which not only thrills me but also amazes me considering the age difference.

Rose is trying very hard to walk. She is more inclined to do so when Lily is around and this evening was no exception. She tried and tried but only managed 2-3 steps at a time. I have to grab the video when it happens next but usually she is standing on tile floor and I am so worried that she is going to fall that I won't leave her side. Her concentration is palpable and quite frankly downright funny.

Here are the antics of today:
As I have mentioned many times, Rose loves to eat and if she likes something she lets you know.

And if by chance you are wondering why Lily sits in an office chair to eat it is because she feels that she is too big for a booster and this chair can be raised up so she reaches the table properly.

Just a few minutes later the broccoli had been annihilated.

After dinner the madness always starts. Tonight the 2 of them were a riot. Lily was teaching Kung Fu and Rose even practiced before getting in her bath tonight. She is now making the same sound as Lily and is very proud and very loud!

All Better

Lily is all better today, thank goodness and thank you for all your wishes. Due to the fact that she was still a little floppy we put Sunday Funday on hold and laid low with her. She was playing hide and seek this morning for ages and it was just hysterical. We all like to think our kiddies are super bright and Lily is a smart girl but then she pulls off something like this and you are left scratching your head!

Nope, I cant see that big blue robe (with a lump in it )in the middle of the floor!

This evening we went to Cracker Barrel for dinner. Finally one has opened in our area. I don't even like the food but the shop is so much fun. Lily agreed.

Sous Chef

Tonight I had a little helper in the kitchen when it was time to make dinner. She was still into singing and I have no idea where she got the words to "blue suede shoes" from. I swear it is not from either of us so it must be something to do with school cos she started singing it about 3 weeks ago. Don't even ask me about the hair.....it just happens to it! Some strange vortex just sucks it out of whatever doodads you put it in and it can happen in a nano second. I bet my father has a fit every time he looks at this blog!

This House Needs A Warning

Children not only bring more joy into your life than you can ever imagine but they make you smile and laugh a thousand times a day. Lily is so happy. We think this but people are always telling how happy she is too, from the checkout girls at the supermarket to the strangers we meet in our day to day wanderings. Since she has learnt to write one of the things that fills me with the warm fuzzys are the little notes that she writes and sticks to the fridge. We made her some vocab cards that she keeps in her desk so that when she wants to write something she can just pull out her cards look at the picture or photo and use the corresponding word. The other day all be herself she wrote, I love my mommy and daddy. That was a heartmelter, it is on the fridge for all to see. Yesterday she was busy doing some work and she was wearing glasses. I did a double take since she doesnt actually have glasses. One of her bears came with spectacles a long time a go and she decided to wear them herself. They looked so funny on her that I couldn't stop laughing and she didn't mind one bit. She wore them for hours and I had to snap these photos. This is one crazy household, instead of a sign outside that reads, "Warning, Bad Dog" we need one that says, "Warning, Kids Is Nuts"

Grandpa, you are pretty!

There is something very special about being a little girl and having a daddy. I thought mine hung the moon and the stars every night just for me. When Jacob became a daddy to Lily he was still very new at it, in fact we were still in China, when he turned to me and said, "I finally get it". I had no idea what he was talking about until he went on to explain that he finally understood the closeness between my father and I. He said he had, until that point, thought it was odd. (Charming!) When Lily met her Grandpa for the first time she wouldnt even call him Grandpa she called him Daddy 2, "he's my daddy 2" and nothing would budge her. She loved her daddy but other men were off limits, she wanted no part of them but the very second she met Grandpa she loved him to pieces. We don't see her grandparents that often as they are in England but oh my goodness does she love them, her Nanny is her bestest friend and she loves her silly. She just received a photo of Grandpa yesterday and I have to share with you what she said, with her little heart all a flutter she stared at it and said, (now my dad will kill me for this) ohhh, he's such a pretty little boy! Take a look and see if you agree! And I can't leave Nanny out so I have added her website so if you are ever in England stop in and say Hello. They would love to see you, just don't call Grandpa pretty! http://jeannescountrygarden.co.uk/

Pretty Little Boy....Lily thinks so.

Not Ready For This

This morning as I got Lily dressed for school we went through the usual decisions about what colour shirt she was going to wear and then we matched her socks and hair doo dads. She chose red. Red is one of her favourite colours because she knows that in China in brings good luck. When she was picking out her socks and hair doo dads she chose the red ones with hearts on and proceeded to tell me that she thought she would kiss Mark today. After picking myself up off of the floor and pretending not to be shocked, mortified and horrified I asked why she thought that would be a good idea. She just looked at me and said, because he is so cute! HELP! She is 4 this is not meant to be happening. I am blaming it all on The Little Mermaid (LOL) because there is a scene in that in which the Prince is meant to kiss Ariel but he isnt doing it so everyone has to give him a push. When I picked her up today I tried to be very casual as I blurted out, did you kiss Mark. No she said, I was to embarrassed. I told her that means she is to young and needs to wait until she is at least 99. I hope she bought it! This is just to much for my brain to handle and if her Father gets wind of this one....well I guess its a bit late for that thought since he reads this!

The Drunken Skater

When I was little I went out rollerskating without all the pads and helmets etc but Lily loves to wear this clobber. To bad it doesn't improve her technique! You have to admit she looks like she's been drinking crazy juice. The video is a little bit grainy and very short but you'll get the idea.
