Rosie

Rosie loves to help. Things take 10 times as long when she helps me but I don't care at all. If helping involves water in any way, shape, or form it can take 100 times longer. Girl loves to play in water.

I just had this conversation with her:

Me: Rosie would you like to help me wash the grapes?
Rosie: What day is it?
Me: Tuesday
Rosie: No thanks, I don't help on Tuesdays.

Ha ha ha ha. Where does she come up with this stuff?
And for the record, she didn't help and I was done in a flash, for a change.

Christmas Eve

I love Christmas Eve, it is without a day my favourite day of the year. The girls are so excited, we have friends over for a huge meal, we act silly, we giggle and we play games. As the hours pass the excitement becomes palpable. This year was the same for all those reasons however there is one big difference this year: Lily no longer believes....gasp, sputter, cry. A kid in her class told all of them that Santa was not real. With that information planted in her head she pieced the rest together and came straight out and asked. I fluffed my way through the answer the first time but she become more persistent with her questioning and in the end I asked her exactly what she wanted to know and she told me. She said that Santa would have to be magic, reindeers cannot fly and no one can fly around the world in one night even with all the time zones. ( kidlet is too smart for her own good!)
So we sat and talked and she asked and I answered. I ended the conversation by telling her that somethings are just so much more fun if you make believe and that most grown ups still believe. She is skeptical that you can believe in something that you know isn't real.

This year Lily passed all the duties to her sister. She helped her and they even wrote notes together. Rosie picked the cookies and put some carrots outside for the Reindeer cos we don't want them coming inside cos they might poop. Then before we marched upstairs to bed we read Santa Mouse and The Night Before Christmas. Then I tucked one very sleepy girl into her bed and she was concerned that Santa might come upstairs. I told her he never does that. Lily told her to hurry up and go to sleep so that Santa could come. We had been tracking him all day on N0rad and knew he was getting close. They were thrilled when he went to Grandpa's house and we were able to see it on N0rad and saw the front of the house as if we were there.

So now the believers and the non-believers alike are sleeping and I need to get busy stuffing stockings and the like. Oh I love this day so much and tomorrow when they come down stairs it is I who nearly bursts from excitement.

Rosie and Caro playing earlier today. Rosie loves Carolina so much.
They are both inside the same shirt.
Dinner time
Santa's cookies
Lily's notes, one for the reindeer and one for the big guy himself.
Rosie's note, she even signed it at the bottom.

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope your day is your every dream come true.

It's That Wonderful Time Of The Year.

Thanksgiving is the official kick off to the holiday season and being able to share this time with 2 little girls makes it even more magical for me than it has ever been. When they see the Christmas trees for sale, or the Santa's that are everywhere their little faces light up and their voices become tiny little shrieks (sometimes big shrieks) and just for a moment they erupt. Yesterday they saw a house in the neighbourhood that was all decorated and they oohed and aahed and pointed things out to each other from the confines of their car seats. And then, of course, they wanted to know when we were putting up our tree. I told them that I just cannot put up a tree until it is December so they will have to wait another week. Were they happy? No, not ever so but they'll make it.

Packages are arriving and Lily knows that they are Christmas gifts for her and her sister. We always open the brown parcels and she sees the pretty paper and bows. Rosie isn't quite so astute yet, she just sees the parcels and then they are gone not to be seen again until Christmas. After her bath this evening Lily asked me if Santa was real. I wasn't really expecting that bubble to be burst yet but that is what happens when you have a really smart kid. When I asked her why she was asking she explained to me that what Santa does is magic and that magic isn't real. Nobody can do all the things that Santa does therefore he can't be real. Logic......it seriously puts a damper on a day. LOL I explained that somethings are beliefs and it is OK to believe and that makes it real. (hmm, I think that is called lying by omission.)

I scooped the girls up early yesterday and we went on an early mission to buy Jacob's present. They thought it was a great adventure and were thrilled when we hit pay dirt. I tried to prepare them for the fact that the shop might be sold out and when it wasn't they gave a little victory dance. With this being a really long weekend I was able to get together with a friend yesterday and we took her 2 nieces and my girls to the movies to see Tangl*d. Great movie, BTW. This might be hard to believe but this was Rosie's first movie house movie. I don't really like going to the cinema. It's super loud and there are no breaks. I don't sit still for that long. I wasn't sure if Rosie would be OK because she really dislikes loud noise. She did really well except for the fact that she kept asking if we could go and see aunt Pammie's dogs yet. Even her enormous bucket of popcorn didn't distract her.

Rosie at the movies. I failed to mention she took a flashlight because she dislikes the dark also. Not the best photo, I think she was saying "cheese"
Lily wishing I would put the camera away so that she could eat her enormous movie sized candy.
Becky, cracking up because I took my camera to the movies!

Once the movie was finished we rushed to Pammies house to see her dogs. Rosie was really happy. She pushed Coco around in a pushchair and thought she was the bees knees. Pam is so patient with them both. I suppose when you have gone to hell and back certain things no longer bother you.
Coco didn't seem to mind at all.

Today I took down and packed away all the Thanksgivng decorations. The girls oohed all over again at the sight of the Christmas decorations but I did not relent. They will have to wait until December. I also went out early this morning and did alittle more Christmas shopping. My list is getting shorter but I still have loads to do. Hopefully Santa can help out with a little magic.

The Importance Of Family Dinners

All child development experts will tell you that it is extremely important for families to sit down together and eat dinner as a family.
They say this because they have never sat down and had dinner with Rosie and Lily and never had to endure a conversation with the two of them.

Rosie: Mama, I am going to drink all of my milk because milk makes you big and strong.
Me: That's right Rosie it does. Gosh when you grow up you are going to be so smart just like Lily.
Rosie: I don't want to be smart Mama, I want to be just like you.
Lily: Oh so you'd rather be blonde than smart Rosie huh?
Me: You two are right charmers! I happen to be very smart and just a little blonde.
Lily: Mummy, you are really blonde.

Good thing I haven't got a fragile ego.
