Horses and friends

Since I knew Kelly would be at the party yesterday I took our bathing suits with us figuring we would probably end up swimming....somewhere. I had no idea that we would end up at her sister-in-law's stables but it was so much more fun than swimming and if you don't believe me, ask the kids.

I haven't seen much of Kelly this summer which is a shame but Lily is a lot like me and sadly her and Kellys' daughter are no longer clicking and if Lily doesn't click she doesn't want to play, so to speak. I have given her no choice on a few occasions and explained that anything less than polite, kind behaviour will not be acceptable but I can't make the kid spend her whole summer with a child she doesn't enjoy being around. I'm not sure what happened because a year ago they clicked, not the best of friends but Lily would play with her and Julia is a lovely little girl. Just putting it down to different personalities.

Yesterday afternoon they got on fine. They both worked and I think that helped. They washed horses, mucked barns, cough cough, fed horses, did other things to horses and generally had a fabulous time. Sadly they weren't able to ride as we had had a storm the day before that rivalled few that went before it and everywhere was flooded but that didn't stop them having a blast.

When Kelly gave me the address of the farm I knew it was pretty far south but I had no idea how far south until we set out. It was way way down in the really rural part of Miami. As we approached the place Lily said, "wow Mummy this is like the country it's cool here". Yes it is Lilipop, yes it is. We even spotted an old style country store with an old fashioned gas pump and the girls squealed with delight as we passed a field of Texas Longhorns and if truth be told, I did too. I should have pulled over to take a photo but the GPS was hollering directions and I didn't want to miss my turn.

As soon as we arrived the lady who owns the stables was going to feed her homing/racing pigeons and asked the kids if they wanted to go along. Silly question. Just as we were about to follow Kelly said, "I forgot to tell you there are 2 dogs here". I nearly grabbed both girls and ran for the car but then I spotted one, a black lab so I quickly stuttered and stammered, what is the other one? and she said, "a yellow lab" so I breathed a huge sigh of relief and followed along with the black lab close behind. Rosie and Hannah the dog became best friends and went to see the pigeons. Hannah, Rosie and I decided Pigeons were for the birds (damn I am funny) so we stayed outside but everyone else went inside with them.....eewwww.

Rosie touching one that Chris bought out for her .
Ro and Hannah. Hannah has part of a fence post in her mouth. all day it was either this or an avocado, always something.
From there we went to visit the horses and the kiddies all went their separate ways feeding, washing and exercising them. The youngest two Jacob and Rosie didn't want to much to do with them. Rosie was happy playing with Hannah and Jacob was happy climbing trees. He then taught Rosie how to climb trees so they picked avocados together.
This girl needs a dog but this Mama doesn't.
Really friendly Mama with her foal.

Moonshine going absolutely full gallup because Gabby had just bought out a mare. It was so beautiful to watch him run.

Poor little pony got the longest bath in the world
Hey Grandpa, look at the size of this wheel barrow!
Jacob made a swing but Rosie wouldn't touch it because it was "eewwy"

By the time we left, after what was meant to be a brief visit, they were filthy, tired and starving. I stopped on the way home and picked up Chinese food and I have never seen either of my girls eat so much food so quickly. The fact that I made them get clean, and I mean really clean, before I let them near the food, made them really cross because they were starving. It was really a fabutastic day and we will be hard pushed to have another as great here in Miami any time soon.

Madness

Today Lily surprised me by not waking up until 9.15. This is a record and a huge stride for her. Lily has always been one to awaken very early regardless of what time she went to bed. Jacob and I joke that the orphanage must have implanted a chip inside of her and when it is 6.am they activate it and Lily springs to life.
I cooked a huge breakfast that they both devoured and then they joined me on my run. (not my favourite way to run at all.)
We came back and barely had enough time to shower before heading to riding.

Do you notice something different in these pictures?

She is bare back! She loved every second of it and had so many people comment on her form etc.

The girls wanted to head to the beach today but after being outdoors for a couple of hours in 90 degrees, yes it is summer here already, gah, I was not about to head to the beach. We had a huge sort out of toys instead, which basically meant we played with lots of different games for ages whilst the girls said they couldn't part with anything. (lets hope they don't check the trash or my hiding place for charity drop off.) Then they had a tea party, that was when I took over the sorting of toys.

Cute and tiny tea set

This is how they play 0ld Maid
Odd aren't they?

We even went through the crayon box and of course that ended with us baking some fancy crayons. They both sat in front of the cooker the whole time just staring at the crayons melting.
Master Chefs
What's for dinner?

They loved doing this and were so excited with their crayon cocktails and the new colours.

This evening Rosie went to bed early and that left Lily and I to observe Earth Hour. Lily is not afraid of much. In fact she is bold but the dark gets her every single time. The idea of turning off our electric for an hour thrilled her until she realised it would be dark. She found every candle and torch in this house.
Here she is being brave-ish.

We played hide and seek int he dark and told a couple of stories, she made shadow puppets until she scared herself and then we decided to read a book and that kept her occupied. She would occasionally stop reading and ask, "are ghosts real" or "do you believe in Aliens?" It was so hard not to laugh.
I think that sums up the madness of our day. Tomorrow is going to be the beach so I am quite sure I'll have lots of photos.

( Lily had been dressing up and was still half in a costume. I do not let her wear strapless black spandex dresses....honest)

Seven-Eleven Needs A Ride Thru

I am quite sure the unassuming customers at Seven- Eleven were not expecting to see horses tethered up outside when they ran in for their coffee or whatever else they were stopping for.

Lily had a ride out and the destination: 7-11 for a slurp*e and or a treat of their choice. It was hilarious seeing the faces of the other customers and even funnier watching everyone snarf down their food and drinks on horseback. Rosie and I drove there to meet them when they arrived. Lily still has no objections to me accompanying her on lessons and ride outs so I always go. I know it won't be long before the idea of me showing up causes her eyes to roll, way, way, back in her head.

Not the best pictures, the light was in front of me and I had to be quick
Lily absolutely loving the experience, not so much the drink.

As the little sister, Rosie gets to spend a lot of her time waiting on her sister. We wait for her to come out of school, we wait for her to go into school, we wait for her while she rides and on and on the list goes. So when Lily is busy with her business Rosie gets to have some fun as well.

She drives my car, well I expect she would if her feet actually reached the pedals and she could see over the dash.
She loves to drive and these photos just make me smile.

Enjoying the Outdoors.

Ahhh, the steamy hot weather has subsided and we can now enjoy being outdoors.
This morning Lily had a riding lesson and thoroughly enjoyed the fact that it was not 90〫as she had a hard lesson and had to work really hard to get her horse to cooperate. Usually after a lesson like that she would be soaked with sweat but not today. Today she was just hot.

I love this photo of her and Albert saddling up. This was Albert's horse but he asked Lily to help him. It's good for her to work with many different horses.

I never remember to get photos of her working I only take photos of her riding. She was so happy that she could finally reach the horses head ☺

After lunch and a nap for Rosie the girls wanted to head out to the park. I thought it was a fabulous idea and upped the anti by taking their bikes.

Lily chose her scooter instead of her bike and loved the freedom of the bike path.
