Why I love Easter

It was no surprise to anyone when Rosie woke up sort of early this morning and announced in a voice, that could have woken the dead, "it's Easter". As we walked down stairs she noticed a couple of eggs on the stairs but didn't stop to pick them up she was more interested in getting to the bottom to what what might have transpired in the living room whilst she slept. Both girls were so eggcited to see Easter baskets with their names on. They slowly started to sort through there loot and one by one opened all the little plastic eggs.
I will explain the hair later.
I'll also explain this hair doo later....this one is a long story.
May absolute favourite part of Easter Sunday is the egg hunt that we do with our friends the "K's". They finally remembered spotting eggs as they came down the stairs and took off running with their little baskets firmly in hand in search of more.
This search kept them busy for longer than expected and before we knew it were running a little  late for my absolute favourite part of Easter.

Every year since becoming parents our friends the K's and us have done an egg hunt together. We meet over at their place for breakfast and then while we eat the Bunny magically hides eggs throughout the courtyard of their condo complex. Last year we were unable to get together due to a really horrid year. This year, it was GAME ON. We may have gone a little overboard. NAH. We had such a lovely time and ended up spending hours with our friends. We even went out for a walk together, which for my girls was fabulous cos we took their dog.

This little chicky made me smile
The pros. They had a 10 second delay.

Don't judge by the face, Rosie did have a great time

Each year we line the kids up and take their photos.

I can hardly wait until next year to see how much the little whipper snappers have grown!

Egg Hunt

Rosie had an Easter party and egg hunt at school today. Her teacher asked a few of us if we would be able to help out. I'm sure lots of exciting and wonderful things happened but it was all just a huge whir of kids and excitement with a couple of 100 plastic eggs thrown in for good measure. I didn't get one photo of the egg hunt, not one. It rained this morning so the kids weren't able to have the hunt on the playing field it had to be done in the outside corridors instead so it was a little cramped but nothing dreadful. Rosie was at the back of the line as we left the classroom so she was one of the last kids to see the eggs. She was a little bewildered by it all because by the time she got to where the kids were all the eggs were gone. What she couldn't see was all the eggs ahead of the crowd. I made my way to the front so I could get some pictures but stopped to help a little boy get an egg that he had dropped under the fence. He then ran towards another one and was yelled at and I do mean yelled at by another mothers who said, "that's hers, she saw it first, give it back". I was dumbfounded. The ground was awash with eggs, they were everywhere and as this little boy went to pick one up this Mother was claiming it for her child. I think I must have stood in the same spot aghast for a good 10 seconds before regaining my composure and looking for Rosie who had finally seen the eggs and was picking one up. Rosie ended up with 6 eggs in her basket, the child of the greedy old bag had a bucketful and the little boy who was admonished probably had 9 or 10. I found the whole experience thoroughly disheartening. Why is it necessary to have more more more? The kids had empty baskets to begin with so even if they only got one egg they were better off than when they started. Once we returned to the classroom I sat with Rosie whilst she ate her snack and then concocted an excuse and left.
Happy little girl with her eggs

Lining up to go back in the classroom

Sweet little girl

Enjoying the Peep off the top of her cupcake

Making sure she eats it all
My mission now is to really make my children understand that they don't need MORE and that the world is not all about them and what they have. wish me luck.

Candy reigns supreme

The girls woke up this morning and were thrilled to see that the Easter Bunny had hopped by. He left them a little basket each, filled with goodies and bits and bobs.

The Bunny also hid lots of eggs all around the house in the most peculiar of places, some were filled with pennies, others with a piece of candy. He left one golden egg and that had a $1 in it. Rosie found that one and was super happy.

Our traditional Easter morning was cancelled this year which truly put a damper on things but we recovered, fast. Life has been extremely hectic lately so a quiet afternoon, with just the 4 of us, was a much needed treat.

Hope your Easter was peaceful, it seems fitting.

My favourite

It's a very good job that Cad*bury's Mini Eggs are only available for a short time.
I ♥ them.

Happy Easter to those who partake.

Rosie's Easter Party

Rosie had her Easter party at school today and even got to meet the Easter bunny and go on an egg hunt. Oh the excitement. I must say she is starting to handle parties much better but still has room for improvement. She does NOT like hustle and bustle.
I could have titled this post, "The best laid plans of mice and men" cos things went haywire first thing this morning and instead of being at school at 9.30 we showed up just after 10. ( it's a long story)I failed to take my camera with me to work so I asked Jacob to take it with him and then when I picked up Rosie I would get it. Well that also failed miserably as I picked up Rosie but left my camera with Jacob. DUH. Never mind, we got there in time for all the fun and lots of other mums had cameras so I'll have some pictures of the egg hunt soon enough.

Jacob showed up after his appointment with the Doc in time to see them meet the Easter Bunny so I at least have those.

The 2 besties
Thankfully Jacob showed up cos when it was time to take class photos I was shoved to the back and couldn't see over any ones head but Mr. 6ft 2 just held the camera above their heads.
These pictures make me laugh because taking a class photo is the equivalent of herding cats

My sweet girl with The Bunny.

Crafts made my Rosie.
Saying the CLC blessing before lunch. I love that her school teacher does this.
Just look at them all saying their prayers.

She came away with the biggest bag of eggs imaginable and was bouncing off the walls for ages from all the sugar.. The candy is now hidden and I am hoping out of sight out of mind, plays true.

Easter Weekend.

This weekend has been so much more fun than any other Easter because Jacob was actually home with us the whole time and that is a first. He was with us when we dyed the eggs and when we filled the baskets and to top it off Andie is here to. Yesterday we dyed the eggs with the girls and Andie joined in as this is an American pastime so she has never done this before. We made lots of mess as always and then the girls used the dye to dye seashells. Well, whatever works for them, they were having lots of fun.

This morning when the girls woke up the Easter Bunny had already been here and left them both a basket so they were very happy and excited.

Having sweets for breakfast is a surefire way of keeping them excited! The Easter Bunny doesn't tend to leave much candy in their Easter baskets he usually leaves them a toy and this year he left them both Zhu Zhu* pets. Oy vey! We have an annual date with our friends Ed and Jen for breakfast at their house followed by an egg hunt because it never fails the Easter Bunny always hides eggs in their courtyard whilst we are eating, yet we have never caught him in action.

I love watching the kidlets hunt for eggs in the courtyard. The Easter Bunny is very creative with his hiding places and the kids spend quite a while searching. This year lots of Jenny's neighbours, (our old neighbours) came out to watch them.

My favourite part of this annual tradition is lining up the children on the bench and taking their photos. We can see not only how much the kids have grown but how our families keep on growing.
