Looking back I had a truly idyllic childhood. We lived close to all of my aunties, uncles, cousins and my grandparents on my fathers side. I thought that my Grandma was the best Grandma in the whole world and in many ways I still feel this way about her. She was everything a Grandma should be and I spent an amazing amount of time with her. I was so lucky to have her and share so much time with her. We cooked, we baked and she could sing every nursery rhyme and song ever written.
Today is Grandparents Day and my wonderful Grandma is long gone but now I see Lily relishing every second with her Nannis and Grandpa just like I did. Even though many miles come between us we talk to them on the phone weekly, we see their faces on Skype when we can and we send little notes and cards backwards and forwards. Lily doesn't understand how far away her Grandparents live and it isn't important to her she just knows that the love that they share is like no other love that she knows. Nannis never gets cross when she spills her drink all over the clean table cloth, Grandpa never complains when someone sneaks into their bed at 6.30am and they are always ready with the best hugs and kisses ever.
Grandparents really are some special people. It is so fabulous for me to see Lily share the same love that I have for her Grandparents. The thought of going to see them just fills her with so much excitement and if I should say, "ohhh, you are so much like your Grandpa", she looks so proud. My parents were very strict but these grandparents, heck they are a pushover!
Happy Grandparents to the best Grandpa and Nannis we know. We love and miss you and wish we were closer.

Grandparents are so imporant to the lives of a child. I am 38 years old and cannot imagine not having mine!
I so agree with everything you said here. Grandparent's are the foundation. I'm so lucky that my mil has been an active part of the girls lives before they were even an image. She loves them so much. She will be flying in on Thursday. She is here like clock work every 2 months now! I wish the rest of the grandparent's would step up to the plate.

grandparents are the best!! I feel so blessed to have been close with my mom's parents, growing up so close to them...they were amazing grandparents....
A very important part of growing up are grandparents and their role. Memories that we keep forever.

I also have wonderful memories of Grandma, but I can't forget that she gave you more pocket money than me!!! I'm sure it was just because you are older.
