We trekked out early to see a firework display and played around and walked around the lake but at about 8.30 the thunderclouds moved in and it poured with rain so we made a dash for the car. Rosie never got to see fireworks and Lily called it a stinking 4th of July. Still we had lots of fun whilst we waited so never mind.

Since I am not a "Yank", to me July 4th means one thing and one thing only:

Happy Birthday Daddy.
Love you lots
me......and the rest of the gang.

Lazy, Crazy, Summer Days.

Five years ago today at 6.05pm life as we knew it, and had known it for 16 years, changed forever. My cellphone rang and we received. "The Call." I can remember every single detail as if it was yesterday. Five years ago today we saw Lily's face for the first time and realised that dreams really do come true. You cannot prepare yourself for the arrival of a child because you cannot imagine all the ways in which your life will change (for the better) but the most amazing change of all is the love that you have for that little itty bitty person. It truly is earth shattering and it hurts, love this deeps hurts to the core but I wouldn't have it any other way. I won't go into all the details of our referral cos I did it last year but if you missed it you can read it here.

Lily, I have said it before and I will say it over and over again, I love you and thank you for being my daughter. You make every single second of my life so bright and happy.

But, I digress:
I don't know if it is because we have done it before or if it is because Rosie travels better than Lily did at this age but we have just got back from a quick jaunt to Naples and we had a really wonderful time. The only negative about travelling with Rosie is that she is not fond of being in a car seat for very long. Naples is only 90 minutes away so it is perfect.

Happy Little Clam

Finally, a decent family shot. And look at that, I am wearing a dress and no one is getting married and nobody died....geesh, it was just cos I felt like it. That, dear people, never happens! It was a special occasion though cos Jacob and I were celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary.......with the kidlets in tow!

As for all my dilemmas, well they have sorted themselves out. I test drove the car I wanted and then bagged the idea and have decided to go with something entirely different. We should have been on a plane right now to England but that fell apat but it is fine, just fine. I am going to take a week off later this summer and just spend time with the kidlets at the beach and zoo etc etc. There is so much here that needs our attention that it will be great to just get it all done. I had this brain storm to start decorating but at this point I am over it. Painting always seems like a wonderful plan until you get knee deep in paint and then it turns into such a chore. Or maybe it is because just as I get into some sort of rhythm a certain Weasel awakes from her nap and I have to put everything away until later. We have a little pressure now to complete the decorating cos we have our 6 month post placement adoption visit with our social worker in 10 days time. Gulp.

Insight Into The Male Mind

Explanation: I asked Jacob to watch Rosie for a couple of minutes so that I could complete a job that I was doing before he left for the day. I believe that Miss Rosie must have been rather clingy or something cos that is what I found when I walked back downstairs. Now you understand the need for a password protected blog......I am sure our agency and social worker would love this one. LOL

Dilemma's

One minute everything was all planned out and the next thing...poof, everything is up in the air.

We were planning on moving, well we still are but the housing market here has done a nose dive and you all remember the story of Jacobs transfer. We are now thinking that staying in the state of Florida, aka, the burning hot hell hole, might not be a bad idea. We have to leave Miami cos lordy lordy, this isn't where I want to be but just a few short miles up the road and across the county line is civilisation. Who knew it was just a stones throw away. Many of our friends live up there so that would be a huge plus. It is nice, areas that are green can be seen all over the place as opposed to here where cement reigns supreme.

The next dilemma. I need a new car. I love my "little car". She holds many memories for me. I am attached to her and she is faithful....very faithful. I get in, start the engine and we go, hell for leather, where ever it is we need to be. "Little Car" never lets me down. After 2 years of looking I finally made my decision. I chose a big girl car. One with plenty of room for 2 kids, plus lots of grown ups and lots of stuff. So why haven't I bought it? Gas prices have gone ape. Now I am back to umming and arrgghing again. I really don't want to spend that much money to fill my tank. Sure I can get a really good deal on the one I wanted now cos nobody with half a brain is buying anything bigger than a Smart car now but a Smart car really isn't that smart when you have to lug a massage table, a pushchair and whatever the toy d' jour is all over town.

Next: Summer vacation. What to do, what to do? This too was sorted but now not so much. I think we are going to fly out to Seattle for a few days for our agencies family day and then we can catch up with some of Lily's travel group which would be wonderful. I don't want the summer to be over and realise we didn't go anywhere. Once August gets here school starts, Rosie has surgery (maybe) and we have to go to court for her adoption.

I am the queen of organised. Everything I do is organised and I can't seem to make a simple decision about some important stuff. Dilemma's, dilemma's.....sigh.

And I leave you with this: Our friend Chicken Feet has been away for a few days so we are collecting her mail. Today as we walked to her house Lily asked if she could walk on ahead cos Rosie is a bit slow so I said she could. The next thing we hear is Rosie's little voice shouting, YiYe wait, YiYe wait. (translated, Lily wait, Lily wait.) I couldn't believe it...who taught her to speak? She understands EVERYTHING and loves to do little tasks for us. She calls her blanket "bray bray" and if you ask her to say please she says "pweeee". Oh and just so I don't forget she loves to throw loo roll into the toilet. If she knows you have just used the loo she will throw some paper in it for you, the only thing is she likes to use about half the roll each time she does it.

That does it for now I am going back to my house and car shopping. Thank heavens for the internet.

The Good and The Hour of Bad

I love summer holidays. No rushing to get Lily to school, no rushing to pick her up. Actually, just no rushing whatsoever.
We have been busy having fun. Rose is a little adventure Queen and Lily is a fine example in that arena. If Lily can do it then Rose thinks she should give it a shot. We went to a water park with a large group of friends and Rosie loved it. I put her in my lap and we went down a water slide and she laughed all the way to the bottom, got up and said, again. I don't have any photos because my hands were full with 2 girls and all that water. We had a riot and cannot wait to go again but this time we will take Daddy with us.

Rose and Marco. Marco is Lily's Bear Skin Rug but Rose has commandeered him much to Lily's chagrin. We are working on finding one for Rosie.

Bubble bath. I put bubbles in the bath the other night and I think it is the first time Rosie has seen them. She loved 'em and of course being Rosie, she ate some.

Yesterday was A*merican Airlines company picnic and Lily had so much fun. It was well over 90 degrees and quite frankly much to hot for we English wimps but I put my game face on and dove right in.

This child of mine fears NOTHING

At least Lily liked it.

Yesterday I found out that our trip home this summer has been cancelled. As much as I fully understand the reason I woke up this morning so disappointed.

And for the hour of bad: last night it was time for Lily to go to bed and she couldn't find her Bunny. In fact none of us could find her Bunny so after and hour of searching we finally told her she had to go to sleep without him. It was so sad. Her little face was streaked with tears and she was crushed. We put her in our bed in an attempt to soften the blow but she still didn't fall asleep. Jacob and I kept searching and after a couple of hours of shredding the house I found him in her toy kitchen in a tub under a pile of toy kitchenware. We immediately ran him upstairs and she was elated and so were we. She slept like a log, instantly.

Off to a farewell party for some friends that are moving to Shang Hai.....lucky ducks!

A Month Of News

Without a shadow of a doubt the most amazing news we have had this month came from Rosie's doctor. Rose had to have her 15th month check up and her heart murmur is significantly improved. She is still a very tiny little peanut and is still wearing 9 month clothes. We got so tired of seeing her in the same stuff day in and day out that we went shopping for her. She has a closet full of stuff but nothing in the tiny sizes.

Talking of Rosie, she loves to do her own laundry!

I was in the bedroom doing something and she managed to get one quick load done. I had to grab the camera because my step brother apparently got caught washing and flushing his socks down the loo when he was little. Thankfully Rose hasn't learnt to flush yet!

She still needs a little help in the feeding department.

She spends lots of time doing this.

As for Lily, well she turned 6. I am amazed by her. She is so sweet and kind to her sister, actually to everyone. She is very smart and extremely funny. For her birthday she wanted to go to Disney World, so we did.

Look at that face!

We made reservations to have lunch with the characters. Lily was in heaven.

Rose did really well with the characters. They were NOT allowed to touch her but she would touch them and she finally plucked up the courage to play bee-boo with Pluto

Before we had even left the car park the kiddos looked like this.

I warned you I wasn't going to be so gaurded with the photos now!
