Cookery Tip

Today I offer you a very helpful cookery tip:

When steaming vegetables be sure to add the water to the pan before turning on the burner.

Tonight I was cooking dinner and I turned on the steamer and went back a few minutes later and lifted the lid to have a peek and nada, nothing was happening. I thought it was strange that it wasn't starting to cook but I replaced the lid and walked away. I did this again a few moments later and still nothing. You'd think I would have twigged, but no, not me. Finally as the house filled with a really acrid smoke smell I figured out that something was amiss. Lily's comment. "wow mummy, you are forgetful aren't you!"

Gosh, I did that not too long ago. Forgot to put a bit of water in the bottom and my house ended up having to be evacuated and the pot thrown away. It actually melted the teflon. Didn't know that was possible. It was horrible. Lily cracks me up!

Unfortunately, this is a reguar occurance in our house. Neither of us can cook and so the fire alarm gets exercised a lot.

Dawn,
I am replying to your comment on our blog,(sophispot - linked through Eliza's Story). I am glad to know of someone else from Tuanfeng. I didn't know we had a picture of Mrs. Li in our photo. Is she the older woman or the younger woman? I was never too clear on who these women were that delivered our daughter to us. I understood they worked at the orphanage. Is Mrs. Li the wife of the Orphanage Director? I am interested in learning more about Tuanfeng. Any information is appreciated. I will follow your blog faithfully now that I know Lily is from Tuanfeng.
