Lily has her first ever experience with the FCAT this coming week. She is more than ready. Her teacher is fantastic and these kids are prepared. Why do they put so much pressure on the kids? It is asinine that at 8 years of age she is being put under this amount of pressure. I have had at least 5 forms sent home over the last 2 weeks that I have had to sign and return stating that I do know when the FCAT's are and that she will be there and lets not even count the phone calls. On and on, make sure they go to bed early, make sure they eat breakfast, make sure they have their glasses if needed, make sure they do not have any electronics on them, make sure they are present and on time, make sure you go totally freaking nuts and get you kid all wigged out too! They have been studying for it for the last couple of months they have had it rammed down their little throats. All we can do is tell her she is prepared and ready to go, we know she is. But the FCAT holds so much weight and they teach only to pass the exam and now it is here and she is worrying.
I wanted to do something special for her. Something that would help to ease her mind and keep her calm. But what? Enter Michelle who has just opened her own Etsy store. She is so talented and we have all been badgering her for a while now to sell her wares on Etsy. She posted something on FB about some necklaces that she was making and that is when I realised that that was just what I needed for Lily. I got in touch with her and we came up with the perfect one for Lily.
The night we received Lily's referral I wrote her a letter and sealed it in an envelope for when she is older. I have no idea now what is in that letter. I also chose a song for her: You'll Be In My Heart, by Phil Collins. She loves that song especially as she knows it is hers and very time she hears it she smiles, I on the other hand, tear up!
Here is the necklace that Michelle made for her
Just look over your shoulder....... I'll be there.
I tell her this all the time. Whenever she is feeling unsure so what better words to write for her.
And a photo of my beautiful girl. The glass charm is attached to a black ribbon. I chose a red background for Lily as it is considered good luck in China and it is one of her favourite colours.
I couldn't leave Rosie out so I had an identical one made for her and will keep it until she is older.
Those tiny bubbles cannot be seen when you look at it but the magnification of the camera caught them
I chose yellow for Rosie as that is her favourite. Both of the necklaces came in lovely little organza bags and the fact that the bags matched the colours of the necklaces was not wasted on me. LOL
A couple of days after I bought them I saw another one that caught my eye so I ordered it for myself.
On the back Michelle wrote both girls names and province where they were born.
Michelle is not only really talented but ever so sweet and kind. There was a bit of a SNAFU with the mailing of them and she was dreadfully upset even though I assured her everything was fine but she still felt badly so she made 2 lovely little bracelets for the girls and without my knowledge added them to the bag.
Now Lily has something very special to help to ground and centre her. If she feels worried she can just touch her pendant and remember to look over her should because I WILL always be there.
When I gave it to her she got all mushy it was so sweet and it opened her up a little bit and she told me she was nervous....ARGHHH. Freaking test hold way to much water for my liking!
If you want something special just check out Michelle's store and if you don't see exactly what you want drop her a note and she can customise something for you and you will be giddy just like Lily and I.
Thank you Michelle, we love them.

Those necklaces are so beautiful.
I'm new to your blog and as I saw your pix I realized that you live in So-Fl. How very awesome! I used to live in Miami Beach before venturing out to Abu Dhabi with my husband and little girl (I'm the visitor from Dubai that keeps coming up in your traffic feed.) I also lived in SW with my parents and siblings when I was younger and used to go to and order from Nunzios all the time! YUM I miss it. Anyway, I am so happy reading your blog. I hope to begin my adoption adventure soon from all the way over here.
Warmest wishes to you and your family.

The necklaces are PERFECT!!!!
I hate the pressure that schools are putting on kids over the testing. Around here it is bad also - a couple of principals have been fired because of low test scores so now other principals seem to be going overboard.
Hugs to Lily! I'm sure she will do amazingly well. I hope that she doesn't worry too much!
That is so sweet! You can do it Lily!
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked them.
Oh, how sweet those necklaces are! Beautiful! I read the post about Lily doing well on her tests and then had to scroll down to see what it was all about. Can't believe they make them do that at 8! But good for Lily doing so so well! And good for her awesome parents who did everything to let her know you will be there for her!
