Out And About In Beijing

As we stood in the middle of Tian 'anmen Square this morning I was hit by this feeling of de ja vu and then I realised it was because I have seen the photos of it on so many blogs. It is rather surreal to be here and we are having a really wonderful time.

Last night we all went to bed at 7.30 and slept until 6.01 this morning.....no more jet lag for us. We met our guide this morning and went of to the Forbidden Palace and to the square. It really is amazing to be able to see all of this and I am so glad that we chose to do this part of the trip. As for the weather, it is freezing and I have even been wearing my hat. Lily was so bundled up this morning that she said she couldnt move properly.

After an amazing, yet intimidating lunch our guide dropped our little group back at the hotel so we all decided to go to the Beijing Zoo. Not the best experience and the conditions for the animals are worse than deplorable and we were really rather thankful that it was cold cos the smell was very overwhelming and we could only imagine what it must be like o a hot day!!!
The highlight of the zoo was the giant panda exhibit.

To Lily's class back home: Lily says that she misses you and that she had a great time today but cannot wait until tomorrow when she gets to walk on the Great Wall of China.

Lucky Knobs! Apparently it is good luck to touch these knobs on the doors so Lily had to touch as many as she could find.

In a million years you won't be able to guess what Schnoog is doing here.

She thought this little hole was a mouse hole and she was looking for the mouse!!

This building is just down the street from our hotel and it looks really odd, almost as if it is collapsing. It is very new and looks a lot better in real life.

The pics are great! I love how Lily was looking for a mouse. She has an amazing sense of adventure. Of course I must ask where your hat is? I know that it is quite cold right now.
