Mid - Autumn Moon Festival
Today is the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival, one of the most important holidays in China. On the 15th day of the 8th month the moon appears to be at its brightest and for one night only it is said to be perfectly round. The moon festival honours the female goddess of the moon so the women in the family prepare the house, (go figure). It is decorated with lanterns, a picture of the moon and a picture of the Jade Rabbit who is said to live in the moon. When the moon is nearing its roundness women and girls light candles and bow to the moon.We shall attend a large gathering this evening at a Chinese restaurant and afterwards there will be a lantern parade to the beach where the children will gather and gaze at the moon. The typical fare for this holiday is the Mooncake pictured above and persimmons and other fruit. Happy Moon Festival To All.
