Waves

Yesterday on Facebook a friend posted that they went to the beach for the first time this year. It inspired me and so this morning I threw that very idea out to the girls and they dashed to get ready. I was concerned that the water would still be much to cold.....for me. I was sure that I would be at the waters edge begging them to be careful and come a little closer to the shore. I was wrong, the water was a still freezing a smidge to cold for me but I was brave and went in with them anyway.

This is the time of year when our water is the clearest and the bluest. The closer we get to summer the scummier our water gets. The tropical storms and hurricanes churn it up and fill it with weed and stuff. Now it is a beautiful colour and quite clear. Today we even had waves which are rare here.

Stunning, no?
Manic swimmer on the beach
Oh dear lord there are 2 of them
After you. No, after you.
It's cold
Run for the land
fooled you, I'm not going in, ha ha ha
Eventually they both went in
and then they both got out and Lily started to dig to China
and Rosie played with the sand

There's always one

The kids and I love to play Wii. We really get into it and have loads of fun. We've had the console for about 4 years so we've built up quite a large range of games. It never fails that when we play we end up laughing our heads off. The kind of laughter that leaves you gasping for air.

Lily was the cause of the laughter yesterday. Miss Competitive is actually a good sport when it comes to Wii but she does try her best so when I saw her boxing skills yesterday I was reduced to heap of giggles. I managed to pull myself together long enough to whip out the video.

What on this planet is this? She swoops to the side with the grace of a Gazel. She's meant to be dodging a punch, people, not doing ballet. And what is with her little bottom doing all that wriggly stuff? I have no idea. Heaven help her if she really ever needs to punch anything, it will be hopeless. Oh my word I just love this, just love it.

After we had played for a bit Lily decided we all needed to find out our Wii Fit Age so we had to the test and get weighed and measured. Something weird happened when Rosie weighed in:
Fat kid ???
32.5lbs and at the risk of being overweight???
I swear if you are super duper skinny and look like a bone when naked when your BMI is tested the machines get screwed up. A few years ago my step brother Chris had to have his annual physical for the British Army and the man is like 17 ft tall and weighs 100lbs. He is skin and bone and as fit as a fiddle. Once it was complete he was called aside and told he was verging on obese. Are you freaking kidding me the man has to jump around in the shower just to get wet. Both he and Rosie are painfully thin so how in gods name can they be at the risk of over weight. Anyhoo, my little Fatso was really impressed to hear for the first time ever, that she is a porker. Stupid machine.
Oh and just in case you care, my Wii Fit age is 37...oh yeah . Oh that's right the stupid machine is broken. Damn.
I really love my Wii Fit too The kids love it as well as there are loads of things that they can do along with me. It's hilarious fun. That is the one that measures your fit age and your BMI, albeit poorly!

Why I love gift cards

I think that gift cards are the best gifts ever, well with the exception of diamonds cos we all know that diamonds are the best give ever. (i'm sorry bb but I really love those sparkly little devils). I love getting gift cards for presents and I squirrel them away in my bag and guard them like a ferocious dog. I never forget they are there and I love knowing I have them and then when everyone least expects it when we are out and about having a fun time I produce one that makes the fun even better.

This afternoon I asked the girls if they wanted to head North or South. They said North, So we jumped in the car and headed North. After that initial direction I have know idea which way we actually went as I have no sense of direction whatsoever. We drove through a horrendous thunderstorm and came out the other side to gorgeous sunshine. We headed into the Gables and wandered around with the girls directing where we went next.

After an hour or so we decided it was time for dinner and voila, out came the gift card collection and we headed to a restaurant and sat outside and had a really nice dinner. The girls were delighted to be eating al fresco, I swear they will eat anything if they get to eat outside. For those of you not familiar with the Gables, it's an upscale neighbourhood and we were right smack in the middle of the Mile. As we ate the girls were entertained by a homeless man going through a garbage can down the street. He was picking through a bouquet of flowers and making his own arrangement out of them. Lily suddenly got very worried that he was going to walk over and hand them to us so we high tailed it back inside. That kid thinks very highly of herself.

That particular gift card was a Christmas present. Just cos I saved it so long doesn't mean I didn't like it, I loved it, I just wanted the perfect time to use and today was that day. That's why I love them so much. I have some from my birthday, it might be months until I use them. One day I will be walking through a shop and something fabulous will catch my eye and I will be able to get it, guilt free. Shopping doesn't get better than that.

Mummy, I love it here, take my picture. Yes, she really said that.
take mine too
Before the live entertainment showed up.
On the way home we had to make a little detour cos someone made herself feel carsick by reading but we managed to salvage the day and more on that later because it was so much fun.
